Relevant Experiences

Where I have been

My passion is traveling. I have lived, studied, and worked abroad on a number of occasions and have assisted or visited researchers in the field around the globe. I strive for international collaborations in both my research and conservation projects. Here is a map of where I have been and some of my relevant experiences.

2010. Spatial Ecology, University of Queensland, Australia

I worked at the Spatial Ecology Lab at the University of Queensland learning mathematical approaches to modeling the spatial dynamics of nomadic species and developing conservation strategies for ecological communities subject to multiple disturbances; in particular, lesser flamingos in East Africa and coral reefs in the Great Barrier Reef, Australia.

2010. Ikh Nart Nature Reserve, Gobi Desert, Mongolia

I visited the Ikh Nart Nature Reserve in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, to visit with conservation researchers with the Denver Zoo working to protect Argali Sheep, Siberian Ibex, Cinereous Vultures, and a variety of carnivores in the Gobi.

2007-2008. Paleolimnology, University of Arizona

As a senior research project at the Univeristy of Arizona, I re-constructed a regional wildfire record for East Africa based on sediment cores from Lake Tanganyika to investigate the impacts of anthropogenic climate change.

(See previous research).

2007. UREKA Program, University College Dublin, Ireland

With the UREKA program, I analyzed fossil Serpianosaurus (Mesozoic marine reptiles) to elicit patterns in skeletal completeness, orientation, and disarticulation that can be related to biological and environmental factors; specifically, whether the fossils reflect the presence of marine currents.

2006-2007. UA/NASA Space Grant Program

Before studying ecology, I was an astronomy major. With the Arizona Space Grant Program, I tested impact-cratering computer simulation to validate computer modeling of meteor impact cratering.

2005. Study abroad in Segovia, Spain

In the summer of 2005, I lived with a host-family and attended Universidad SEK  in Segovia, Spain. I speak conversational Spanish.
